Safeguarding

In particular, within the church community, safeguarding is an essential commitment for preventing abuse and neglect of vulnerable people. Making sure that children, adolescents, and adults who are in danger are safe is a shared responsibility.

The safety and wellbeing of each and every person are our top priorities at the Syro-Malabar Mission Bendigo. To guarantee that this important duty is fulfilled, our Eparchy Safeguarding Team's instructions are strictly followed. For anyone who may have been abused or exploited, we are here to provide support.

It is essential that everyone in the church community knows how to react to possible damage in order to uphold these principles. In order to successfully address these circumstances, every volunteer at our mission complies with legislative laws and completes safer churches training.

The safeguarding team at St Thomas Syro Malabar Bendigo follows the Eparchy's safeguarding policies and laws. The mission prioritises protection of children and adheres to national Catholic safeguarding guidelines.

The Parish Safeguarding Officer collaborates with the parish priest, catechism department, parish council, choir, media team, and all other mission volunteers to ensure that SMMB is a safe environment for everyone, particularly children and vulnerable members of our community.

The SMMB Safeguarding Team gratefully acknowledge every mission volunteer for their ongoing devotion, commitment, and contributions to building the mission.

The safety of our children is everyone's responsibility.
